Retired animal health business executive and equestrian, Jim Phillips, has created a unique way to fundraise for LongRun Thoroughbred Retirement Society in Hillsburgh and its retired racehorses.
The campaign also highlights the thoroughbred’s versatility and athletic ability through the journey of his own retired racehorse, Mike.
A sales topping full brother to Champion Pender Harbour, Mike did win his first start but his true calling appears to be in the show ring; he’s already shown successfully in four events this year.
Mike will be on his way to the Retired Racehorse Project’s Thoroughbred Makeover being held at the Kentucky Horse Park early October.
I Like Mike
Phillips will not only be fundraising for LongRun via the “I Like Mike” campaign but will generously match any donations made in Mike’s name up to $15,000.
All funds raised will go to LongRun and tax receipts will be issued for any donations received.

Background
LongRun Thoroughbred Retirement Society, a registered charity with main offices at Woodbine Racetrack, currently is caring for over 50 retired thoroughbreds on its central farm in Hillsburgh.
LongRun’s horses are donated by caring owners and trainers who would like to see them go on to a loving, adoptive home and possibly a second career as a riding or show horse.
Those horses whose age or physicality prevent them from being re-homed are offered permanent sanctuary and possibly participation in the equine-assisted therapy programs and educational youth tours, which are conducted in partnership with Woodbine Entertainment and Sam-Son Farms.
